EVENT FOR THE AWARDING OF 100 + 1 SCHOLARSHIPS BY THE UNION OF GREEK SHIPOWNERS (UGS)
The IRENE Welfare Association gave three young students the opportunity to follow their dreams as they have always envisioned, covering the costs of their postgraduate studies in Greece and abroad! Specifically, Andreas Spanopoulos, Achillea Nepheli Daskalopoulou Auer, and Ilias Yoran Namiás are the three students we had the pleasure of meeting in person and discussing their future dreams and career paths.
In an emotional atmosphere, the Scholarship Award Ceremony for Postgraduate Studies of the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS) took place on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the Piraeus Municipal Theatre. This is the most extensive scholarship program in the history of the UGS, proving in practice that shipping and society are always together, offering strong support to the new generation!
As part of the event, 100 + 1 Scholarships for postgraduate studies at the pre-doctoral level were awarded, covering full one- or two-year tuition for studies at Universities both within Greece and abroad for the 2023-2024 academic year.
During her speech at the event, Ms. Domna Michailidou, Deputy Minister of Education, Religion, Lifelong Learning, and Sports, emphasized the importance of shipping for our country. The moment was particularly moving when the scholarship recipients, on stage, took the floor from the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, Mrs. Melina Travlos, introduced themselves, and presented their scholarships to the packed Piraeus Municipal Theatre, amidst warm applause.
It is worth noting that the Union of Greek Shipowners, through its collective vehicle for social solidarity, has contributed over 80,000,000 euros in recent years to sectors such as health, education, social welfare, food aid, public-interest projects, and crisis management.
