A new space is being created by the ‘Irene’ Association in one of the facilities of the ‘ARGO’ – Naval Parents Association of Youth and Adults with Disabilities, thereby enhancing the quality of life of those who reside there.

The ‘ARGO’ – Naval Parents Association of Youth and Adults with Disabilities was founded in 1985 by mothers (wives of seafarers) of children with disabilities. Its mission is to provide education, support, housing, and opportunities for social inclusion to youth and adults with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Autism Spectrum Disorders. It was established to welcome into its facilities individuals who were not accepted by other existing educational structures. This distinctive characteristic became a key motivating force for the ‘Irene’ Association to support its activities and respond to its needs.

In Kalyvia Thorikou, three facilities of the ‘ARGO’ – Naval Parents Association of Youth and Adults with Disabilities are in operation, serving a total of 116 beneficiaries. The outdoor area of the Supported Living Residence ‘Ioannis Angelikoussis’ in Kalyvia Thorikou was uncovered and exposed to weather conditions: to the sun, extreme heat, and lack of shade during the summer, and to rain, which made it unusable in autumn and winter. There was a significant and essential need to find a way to cover this area so that residents could step outside and get a breath of fresh air outside the Supported Living Residence.

The ‘Irene’ Association addressed this essential need by implementing, at its own expense, a pergola in the outdoor area of the residential home. With this donation, our aim was not only to provide shade and protection but also to create a welcoming and safe space for its residents.

The outdoor area of the Supported Living Residence now has its canopy. This isn’t just a structure, it has given the beneficiaries a moment to step outside and breathe. They now have a space for relaxation and gathering. We have created a cool, protected area where residents and their caregivers can go outside, play, listen to music, and spend time together… in a shaded, rain‑protected place with comfort and safety.

A meeting point for the beneficiaries to play, engage in outdoor activities, and socialize has become a reality… for the small moments that make up the bigger picture of everyday life.

The new space donated by the ‘Irene’ Association is a place to live, every single day.

Total Budget: €13,020.00
