The “Magic Wand” competition is a new initiative designed by the “Eirini” Social Welfare Association exclusively for students of the Moraitis School (Classes: IB1 and IB2). Through this initiative, students are invited to learn how a charitable organization operates and to propose social impact projects with a budget of up to €50,000, aimed at meaningfully improving the daily lives of people in need.
The students’ response was highly encouraging, with a significant number of proposals submitted. These focused on issues such as inclusion, healthcare, and environmental protection. Their ideas demonstrated young people’s strong interest in social issues and their desire to actively contribute to building a better society.
Beyond the proposals themselves, however, the program’s greatest achievement was fostering empathy. Students were challenged to examine issues affecting vulnerable groups and to understand them from the perspective of those who experience them every day. This process enabled them to recognize genuine needs, develop meaningful solutions, and realize that social contribution begins with understanding and caring for others.
At the same time, participants developed valuable planning and organizational skills. They were required to prepare detailed budgets, assess the feasibility of their proposals, and present comprehensive action plans.
Regardless of the competition’s final outcome, “Magic Wand” has already achieved its primary objective: giving Moraitis School students the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of others and to understand that meaningful social change begins with empathy, respect, and active participation.
The winners of the competition will be announced in September. Their proposals will be brought to life, as the “Eirini” Social Welfare Association has committed €100,000 to fund the implementation of the students’ winning projects.
