This Christmas, the sleigh of the “Irene” Welfare Association, focusing on the children, brought games, joy, inclusion, and festive spirit to the hospital’s courtyard as well as to the wards of the Athens Children’s Hospital “P. & A. Kyriakou”. The Irene Welfare Association organized this celebration as a continuation of its ongoing contribution to the hospital, since its courtyard, which provides a new and safe space for children, was renovated last year by our Association.
At our celebration, we all shared a warm Christmas atmosphere together. The presence of everyone—children, families, healthcare professionals, and volunteers—reminded us of the importance of togetherness. Everyone’s participation in the Irene Welfare Association’s event tangibly highlighted our shared values: equal presence, active participation, and genuine inclusion for all
A special moment of the event was the visit of students from the 7th Primary School of Nea Ionia, accompanied by their parents and teachers, to the hospital wards. Children, parents, and volunteers, accompanied by the Navy Band, which filled the hospital corridors with Christmas melodies, brought the true Christmas spirit to the real heroes. The joy and emotion in the eyes of the children and their parents were beyond words. Because the greatest power of Christmas lies in something very simple: it reminds us that kindness, when shared, multiplies, and that when we all join forces, we can make the world a little brighter.
At the event, workshops were held in a Christmas-themed atmosphere, aimed at enhancing children’s emotional expression, creativity, and psychological resilience, with respect for their individual needs and abilities. A delightful surprise was the wonderful festive buffet with treats for both children and adults, prepared by the Gastronomy Department of AKMI Higher Education School. A warm detail that completed our celebration.
The message of the “Irene” Welfare Association’s event was simple but powerful: solidarity, support, and high-quality public health for all children. And this is the spirit we want to carry every day: to create small bridges of joy during difficult times, and to remember that hope grows stronger when we share it!
