“The School We Dream Of” – From US, for us - 1st Gymnasium of Alexandroupolis – “Leontarideio”
We are delighted to share the successful completion of the school environment improvement initiative carried out as part of the programme “The School We Dream Of – From US, for us”, with the support of the “Eirini” Association.
The programme was created with the aim of giving students the opportunity to observe their school environment, express their views, identify needs and suggest interventions that could improve their everyday school life. The students’ ideas, needs and suggestions formed the basis for a series of improvements that were planned and implemented through the cooperation of the entire school community.
On Tuesday, 16 June, students, teachers, parents, representatives of the Municipality and members of the “Eirini” Association came together in the schoolyard of the 1st Gymnasium of Alexandroupolis – “Leontarideio” and actively participated in the effort to improve and transform the school environment.
The students worked in groups and took part in a variety of activities focused on the schoolyard. Among other things, the work included the installation of benches, painting of outdoor surfaces and sports-court lines, replacement of basketball nets, installation of a new volleyball net, and the creation and decoration of flower beds, along with many other interventions that contributed to improving both the appearance and functionality of the school.
The participation of parents was also particularly important. They actively contributed to the work and, together with the students and teachers, became an integral part of this collective effort.
The event was not limited to the improvement works. The day concluded in a particularly joyful and festive atmosphere, with music, food, prize draws and an award for the class with the highest level of participation, as a symbolic recognition of the students’ active involvement, cooperation and contribution.
This initiative marked the culmination of a collective effort and highlighted the importance of involving students in shaping their own school environment. Many of the improvements carried out were based on their own ideas, needs and wishes, demonstrating in practice that students can play a meaningful role in improving their everyday school experience.
Through the cooperation of students, teachers, parents, the Municipality and the Association, “The School We Dream Of” became a reality. The school environment was renewed, becoming more vibrant and functional and, most importantly, was shaped through the participation and creativity of the people who use and experience it every day.
This initiative stands as a positive example of what can be achieved when the entire school community works together, participates and creates together.
